Commercial battery-powered cordless vacuum cleaners: This article discusses the options for the commercial user when considering a cordless, battery-powered vacuum cleaner.
Cordless vacuums come in three types:
- Handheld stick types – pioneered by Dyson and copied by everyone else.
- Pull-along tub vacuums – often by Numatic or Henry
- Full-size upright vacuums – best known are Sebo and Truvox.
For the commercial user, a handheld cordless vacuum such as a Dyson will be woefully inadequate. These are designed for light domestic use and are utterly unsuitable for commercial use.
Numatic Henry vacuums (often with a smiley face on) are also available in a cordless variant. Cordless or not, it is our belief that a pull-along tub vacuum is not really suitable for commercial use. We discuss this in more detail in this article: The Professional Sebo D8 – Better Than a Numatic Henry Hoover.
They may suffice for a domestic cleaner working out of the back of an estate car doing three-bed semis, but they are not really suitable for proper commercial usage.
If you are thinking of a commercial battery-powered cordless vacuum cleaner, you need to be thinking in terms of a traditional upright vacuum. But one that is battery-powered. There are really only two machines to consider, and that is the Truvox Valet and the Sebo BP60.
We’ll discuss both below, but first, let’s touch on why people might want a commercial battery-powered cordless vacuum cleaner over a mains-powered one.
Cordless upright vacuums are becoming increasingly popular for commercial usage due to their convenience, portability, and efficiency. Here are a few reasons why:
- Flexibility and Convenience: Cordless upright vacuums are lightweight and portable, making them easy to move around from room to room or even between buildings. They can be used in areas where traditional vacuums with cords cannot, such as spaces without electrical outlets or areas with limited access.
- Time-Saving: With no cords to plug in or trip over, cordless upright vacuums save time and effort during cleaning tasks. They can quickly and easily clean large areas, such as hallways or lobbies, without the need to constantly plug and unplug the vacuum.
- Efficient Cleaning: Many cordless upright vacuums are designed with powerful motors and high-quality filters, making them just as effective as traditional corded vacuums. They can easily pick up dirt, dust, and debris, leaving floors looking clean and polished.
- Low Maintenance: Cordless upright vacuums require less maintenance compared to traditional vacuums. There are no cords to untangle, and they sometimes come with washable filters that can be easily cleaned and reused.
Overall, cordless upright vacuums can be a great choice for commercial usage due to their flexibility, convenience, time-saving features, efficient cleaning, and low maintenance requirements.
If you are cleaning a large floor space, especially one with many obstacles, such as a bingo hall, social club or restaurant, you may find a cordless machine easier to get around the chairs and tables than one with a flex. This is another reason to eschew machines such as a Henry, who wants that long hose snaking about behind them getting tangled up in the chairs?
You want an upright machine you can push in front of you. And the two market leaders in upright commercial battery-powered cordless vacuum cleaners are the Truvox Valet and the Sebo BP60. So which one to choose?
This is the Truvox Valet.
The Truvox Valet is a soft case machine, although sold in the UK by Truvox International via commercial cleaning suppliers, the machine is actually based on the American Maytag M500.
Those in the trade tell us they are a bit of a disappointment as a vacuum and are more regarded as a sweeper. First, they are not cheap. Parts availability for what is actually a US appliance might be poor in the UK, spare parts may have to be imported from the US. The number of dealers is very limited and a regular UK vacuum repair shop won’t have product knowledge or access to spares very easily. US Maytag machines aren’t sold in the UK. Truvox has a following, and we don’t seek to disparage them, but they are a relatively small brand in the cleaning world.
You can do better. Why not consider the Sebo BP60?
In the real world, we think the Sebo BP60 will blow the socks off a Truvox Valet. The Sebo BP60 performs MUCH better.
We put a Truvox Valet on test side by side with a Sebo BP60 in this video below.
If you haven’t heard of Sebo before, Sebo is a German vacuum cleaner manufacturer that has been producing high-quality vacuums for over 40 years. They have a strong presence in the UK and a good network of dealers.
Sebo vacuums are known for their advanced filtration, high-quality components, innovative design, and versatile cleaning capabilities. They are a reliable and efficient choice for both residential and commercial cleaning applications. Sebo makes the BS360 corded commercial vacuum, which is the best-selling upright commercial vacuum cleaner in the world.
You’ll find Sebo vacuums in use by most large cleaning companies. You’ll find them in hotels across the world. They are often the default machine for healthcare, hospitality and education environments. Even the royal households use Sebo. Sebo has the best reputation bar none for vacuums that last the longest.
Sebo is, without a doubt, the leading commercial vacuum cleaner brand.
The Sebo BP60 is their commercial battery-powered cordless vacuum model. So let’s take a look at the Sebo BP60 in more detail and see if it is right for your application.
The Sebo Softcase BP60 cordless vacuum cleaner is battery-operated and has a sixty-minute runtime. That is an actual sixty minutes, not a claimed sixty minutes like some manufacturers of cordless vacuums spuriously claim. This is made possible by the humdinger of a battery you see below.
This means that even large areas can be thoroughly cleaned in one go, without restrictions and cable clutter. Three LEDs indicate the charging status at all times. And with the supplied charger, the battery can be charged both in the device and outside. A full charge takes four hours.
The filter housing of the Sebo BP60 is a textile soft case with a 2-way zipper. The advantage of this choice of material is that it’s robust, insensitive to impacts and at the same time so light that the hand load of the device is pleasantly low.
When you switch it on, an impeller is set in motion with up to 17,000 revolutions per minute via a toothed belt drive. This sucks in the dirt loosened by the rotating brush and then transports it through the air duct to the filter bag. A simple mechanism with a big effect, because despite the relatively low nominal power of 300 watts, an amazing volume flow of 24 litres per second is generated!
In the event of a blockage or overload, the BP60 switches off automatically. In addition, the device lifts the brush slightly in the parking position to protect the floor. The 4-way manually adjustable brush can be optimally adjusted to the height of any surface.
