The Sebo X7 Graphite vacuum cleaner. Or to give it its full description, the Sebo Automatic X7 ePower Upright Vacuum Cleaner, Graphite. For clarity, the two part numbers are 85560602 and 91504GBG.
So, is it good value? Can you buy it or a comparable Sebo vacuum cheaper? What’s the difference between the X7 Graphite, the X7 Excel and other Sebo models?
That’s what we are going to discuss in this article. Links in this article lead to various pages on our own site and will all open in a new window so you can research, compare and fact check without losing this page.
The Sebo X7 Graphite vacuum cleaner is exclusive to John Lewis. Below is one being tested in our shop (we bought one so you don’t have to).
The Sebo X7 Graphite is dark charcoal grey in colour, not black as it may look on some screens. So it’s not to be confused with other dark grey or black models of Sebo.
All Sebo X7 vacuum cleaners are ostensibly identical in the basic specification. They all have similar or identical body parts, motor, tool fittings, wand handles, switches etc. All that differs is the colour of the body and trims, the extras offered with the machine and in the case of some models (not this one), an extra Boost button (you’ll learn what a Boost button is at the end).
There are no extra benefits or spiffing engineering involved in “exclusive special editions” like the Sebo X7 Graphite. They don’t secretly have more powerful motors, better engineering or anything extra that you cannot otherwise obtain for less money.
We explained this in >>this article<< about the Sebo X7 Excel that John Lewis sells:
The reason department stores approach manufacturers of appliances and ask them to make an “exclusive” line for them is in order that nobody is able to make a like-for-like comparison with other appliances at other retailers. This allows them to offer things like a “price match promise”.
If nobody else sells the identical machine in all respects you don’t need to price match anybody. All you need to do is give a wry smile and say, “Ah, but that machine is not exactly the same as ours, let me explain why…………”
This is marketing from the 1970s large department store retail playbook, and you don’t see that much of it nowadays as people are wise to it. But some of the old school retailers from the era of Captain Peacock in Are You Being Served still believe this stuff works.
So let’s take a closer look at the Sebo X7 Graphite.
At the time of writing, John Lewis are selling the X7 Graphite at £299.90 with a three year guarantee.
That could be a typo because all domestic Sebo vacuums we sell come with a five year guarantee from Sebo. But anyway, its £300.
What does it come with?
The X7 Graphite from John Lewis comes with only a crevice tool and a stair tool. Oh, and a packet of air fresheners. That’s it.
So it’s a base model machine with two onboard tools. No extension hose for the stairs, no dusting brush and no mini turbine tool.
So, let’s save you some money.
Here are your three options if you want to save money and/or get better value than you will find at John Lewis with the Sebo X7.
Do you want to save some money by having another colour?
Look at this: The >>Sebo Automatic X7 ePower in white<<. That is mechanically the identical machine as the Graphite, comes with the same two onboard tools, but it’s white. Oh, and at the time of writing it’s over £40 cheaper and comes with a Sebo five year guarantee.
Would you rather get more for the same price?
Look at this: The >>Sebo Automatic X7 in Navy blue<<. That is mechanically the identical machine as the X7 Graphite, comes with the same two onboard tools, and give or take a pound, it’s the same price. However, that machine also comes with this extension hose for the stairs and this dusting brush for the same price – and it still comes with a Sebo five year guarantee.
Would you spend £30 more and get better value?
Look at this: The >>Sebo Automatic X7 Pet Boost in black<<. That is Sebo’s top of the range model, and our best-selling Sebo. It comes with same two onboard tools, plus the extension hose for the stairs, the dusting brush and the mini turbine tool. This model also comes with a charcoal exhaust filter to minimise pet smells. It also comes with a headlight! And a five year guarantee.
Better than that, it comes with the Sebo Boost button. For a deeper clean, for example with stubborn pet hair, just press the performance Boost button and watch the head sink lower into the carpet for extra pile lifting power. Who doesn’t like carpet stripes? For thirty pounds more with all those extras it’s a no brainer. Why it’s our best-selling model.
And there you have it. You now know everything there is to know about the John Lewis Sebo X7 Graphite.
