The majority of Sebo cylinder vacuum motors \u2013 those used in the D Series, E Series and K Series machines \u2013 share the same basic dimensions. The diameter is consistent, the overall profile is similar, and at a glance they could easily be mistaken for one another. Sebo has used this motor family across a long production run, updating the wattage rating and specification over time rather than changing the physical platform entirely.<\/p>\n

The result is that a 890w post-2017 motor, an older 1800w motor, and an older 2100w motor can all look pretty much the same \u2013 but they are not always interchangeable, and getting this wrong can be an expensive mistake.<\/p>\n

The Three Motors: A Plain-English Breakdown<\/h2>\n

44186DK \u2013 Part Number 6639ER \u2013 890w (Post-2017 Models)<\/h3>\n

This is the motor fitted to current-production and post-2017 Sebo cylinder machines. It is a genuine Sebo motor suitable for the K Series, E Series and D Series manufactured after 2017, covering the 890w specification that became standard following the highly unpopular EU vacuum ban<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Physically, it measures 104mm wide<\/strong> at the widest point on the base, and 115mm high<\/strong> including the button on top and the protruding lip on the base. That protruding lip on the base is a distinguishing feature \u2013 it differs from the Felix, Dart and BS motors which are visually similar but lack it.<\/p>\n

The electrical connections are two small male spade connectors located below the carbon brush holder on one side. Sebo assigned several part numbers to post-2017 cylinder motors; in most cases the differences are simply the rubbers included. If your existing rubbers are in good condition, reusing them allows this motor to fit most cylinder applications even if your machine’s original part number differs slightly.<\/p>\n

Replacing Like for Like<\/h3>\n

Our firm recommendation is always to replace like for like. The PCB (printed circuit board) inside your Sebo cylinder is matched to the motor wattage at the factory. Replacing a motor at the same specification is straightforward, clean and carries no risk.<\/p>\n

Fitting a Lower-Wattage Motor in a Higher-Wattage Machine<\/h3>\n

It is possible to fit a lower-wattage motor \u2013 for example, fitting an 890w post-2017 DK motor into a machine that originally ran an 1800w JK.<\/p>\n

Fitting a Higher-Wattage Motor to Uprate a Later Machine<\/h3>\n

People do try this. Many report success fitting an older, higher-wattage motor into a later lower-wattage machine without changing the controller board. We won’t pretend this never works \u2013 the community evidence suggests it often does. But we cannot guarantee the outcome, and depending on how the PCB responds to the increased draw, you could damage the board. If you are set on this route, you proceed at your own risk.<\/p>\n

On the EU Wattage Restrictions<\/h3>\n

The shift from 1800w and 2100w machines down to 890w was not Sebo’s choice. It was imposed by EU energy efficiency diktat. Sebo’s machines at 1800w and 2100w were exceptional \u2013 powerful, reliable, built to last. Many customers with pre-2017 machines want to keep them running at their original specification for exactly that reason, and we fully support that.
