Sebo Cylinder Vacuum Motors Decoded: Which 44186 Motor Does Your Machine Need?

By | May 21, 2026

Sebo Cylinder 44186 Vacuum Motors Decoded:

If you own a Sebo cylinder vacuum and you’re looking at a replacement motor, you’ve probably already noticed something confusing: they all look remarkably similar, and they all carry the number 44186. Then there are two letters after it – DK, JK, NK – and suddenly it’s not so straightforward.

We get calls and emails about this regularly. People want to know which motor is right for their machine, and more than that, people want to keep their higher-wattage machine at its original specification rather than downgrade it. That’s completely understandable – and it’s the right instinct. This guide is here to clear it all up.

Why Do All Sebo Cylinder Motors Look the Same?

The majority of Sebo cylinder vacuum motors – those used in the D Series, E Series and K Series machines – share the same basic dimensions. The diameter is consistent, the overall profile is similar, and at a glance they could easily be mistaken for one another. Sebo has used this motor family across a long production run, updating the wattage rating and specification over time rather than changing the physical platform entirely.

The result is that a 890w post-2017 motor, an older 1800w motor, and an older 2100w motor can all look pretty much the same – but they are not always interchangeable, and getting this wrong can be an expensive mistake.

The Three Motors: A Plain-English Breakdown

Sebo 2100w motor 44186

44186DK – Part Number 6639ER – 890w (Post-2017 Models)

This is the motor fitted to current-production and post-2017 Sebo cylinder machines. It is a genuine Sebo motor suitable for the K Series, E Series and D Series manufactured after 2017, covering the 890w specification that became standard following the highly unpopular EU vacuum ban.

Physically, it measures 104mm wide at the widest point on the base, and 115mm high including the button on top and the protruding lip on the base. That protruding lip on the base is a distinguishing feature – it differs from the Felix, Dart and BS motors which are visually similar but lack it.

The electrical connections are two small male spade connectors located below the carbon brush holder on one side. Sebo assigned several part numbers to post-2017 cylinder motors; in most cases the differences are simply the rubbers included. If your existing rubbers are in good condition, reusing them allows this motor to fit most cylinder applications even if your machine’s original part number differs slightly.

Before buying, always strip your machine and verify the exact 44186 motor number variant. This is a non-returnable trade part.

44186JK – Part Number 6630ER – 1800w (Older Cylinder Models)

Sebo 1800w vacuum motor

This is the 1800w motor fitted to some older D Series, E Series and K Series cylinder machines built before the EU wattage restrictions came into force. It measures 104mm base radius and around 123mm high without rubbers.

If your machine was built before 2017 and originally ran at 1800w, this is the motor you need. It is a genuine replacement at the original specification.

Check your motor number before ordering. This is a non-returnable trade part.

44186NK – Part Number 6745ER – 2100w (K3 Vulcano and Other 2100w Models)

Sebo 2100w motor K3

This is the highest wattage motor, fitted to 2100w D Series, E Series and K Series machines – including the K3 Vulcano. Like the JK, it measures 104mm base radius × 123mm high without rubbers.

If you’re lucky enough to own a pre-restriction 2100w Sebo cylinder, this is the motor that keeps it at full specification.

Check your motor number before ordering. This is a non-returnable trade part.

Can I Fit a Different Wattage 44186 Motor to My Machine?

This is the question we get asked most often – and the honest answer is: it depends on what you’re trying to do.

Replacing Like for Like

Our firm recommendation is always to replace like for like. The PCB (printed circuit board) inside your Sebo cylinder is matched to the motor wattage at the factory. Replacing a motor at the same specification is straightforward, clean and carries no risk.

Fitting a Lower-Wattage Motor in a Higher-Wattage Machine

It is possible to fit a lower-wattage motor – for example, fitting an 890w post-2017 DK motor into a machine that originally ran an 1800w JK.

Fitting a Higher-Wattage Motor to Uprate a Later Machine

People do try this. Many report success fitting an older, higher-wattage motor into a later lower-wattage machine without changing the controller board. We won’t pretend this never works – the community evidence suggests it often does. But we cannot guarantee the outcome, and depending on how the PCB responds to the increased draw, you could damage the board. If you are set on this route, you proceed at your own risk.

On the EU Wattage Restrictions

The shift from 1800w and 2100w machines down to 890w was not Sebo’s choice. It was imposed by EU energy efficiency diktat. Sebo’s machines at 1800w and 2100w were exceptional – powerful, reliable, built to last. Many customers with pre-2017 machines want to keep them running at their original specification for exactly that reason, and we fully support that. That is precisely why we stock both the JK and NK motors.

How to Identify Your Motor Before Ordering

There is only one reliable way to identify your motor: strip the machine down and read the number printed on the motor itself. Do not rely on the model name or the machine’s age alone – Sebo applied a range of part numbers and specifications across the cylinder range, and there is genuine overlap.

The motor number is printed or stamped on the motor body. Look for 44186 followed by two letters. Those two letters are the only thing that distinguishes these motors from one another on the outside.

You will need a T20 Torx star screwdriver to access the motor on most cylinder models. If you don’t have one, we stock them here.

If your motor number is something other than DK, JK or NK, or if you are unsure, contact us with your motor number and serial number before ordering. We’re happy to help.

And speaking of serial numbers, if you want to know how old your Sebo is, we have a serial number decoding article here.

All three motors are non-returnable trade parts. Please diagnose your machine correctly before ordering – strip it down, read the motor number, and match it to the information above. If in doubt, we are here to help you get it right before you buy, not after.
