Is the Navy Blue Sebo X7 Extra Good Value?

Is the navy blue Sebo X7 Extra vacuum cleaner good value for money? Let us help you choose your next Sebo vacuum.

Sebo X7 Extra

One of the things you should know when you’re looking at navy blue Sebo X7s on different platforms is not all navy blue Sebos are the same. Some so-called “special editions” are confusingly, also navy blue.

One example is John Lewis sells the “Sebo X7 Excel Plus vacuum cleaner” in blue. At the time of writing, this is £439.90. If you bought this blue Sebo X7 from us and this mini turbo tool with it, you have the same machine with the same accessories (sans the headlight) for £368.74 and you just saved £71.16.

You can find “special editions” at Euronics, Hughes, AO and other chain stores too. So-called special editions at big retailers are seldom the best value for money. The best value for money always lies with the machines that are supplied to independent Sebo dealers like us.

Special colour variants like pastel machines aside, there are three models of Sebo X7 supplied to the independent dealer network.

There’s the basic white X7 ePower which comes with no tools other than the two onboard tools. If you have a Sebo already and you are simply updating it, the white one isn’t a bad machine to get because you can use all your old hoses and tools from your X4 or earlier X1 Sebo on your new X7.

The top of the range is the black X7 Pet Boost and it is our belief that this is the best value Sebo X7 you can buy, although it is the most expensive. We have an article on the best value Sebo you can buy here which you can read in conjunction with this one.

However to return to the navy blue Sebo X7 Extra. This machine is a replacement for the much-loved navy blue X4 Extra (and the X4 Excel sold previously at John Lewis). We actually still sell the old Sebo X4 people liked it so much, see this article.

In 2017 the EU forced us to restrict the wattage of our vacuum cleaners down to 900 w and that is the reason that Sebo retired the X4 range in the UK and the EU and introduced the X7 range. The BBC did a news item in our shop on the subject which you can watch below.

The navy blue Sebo X7 Extra is the mid-range machine that comes with the usual two onboard tools, a crevice and a stair tool. It also comes with a dusting brush tool which can be fixed to the handle with the supplied clamp giving you three onboard tools.

The Sebo X7 Extra also comes with the extension hose, which is a very worthwhile accessory to have, and you can find out all about it in this video that we did below.

The Sebo X7 Extra represents pretty decent value for money and it is one of the best-selling models. Like all of the Automatic X range Sebo vacuums, the machine self-levels according to the floor type you’ve got it on, so it is optimally performing at all times.

One of the advantages of Sebo vacuums generally is that they are evolved machines. It isn’t Sebo’s tendency to try and reinvent the wheel every several years as manufacturers such as Dyson and Shark do. Sebo took a very very good design, being the X1 in the 1990s, tweaked it gently through the years and it evolved through the X4 into the X7 that you can buy today.

What this means for you is the Sebo X7 Extra is an extremely reliable and capable machine. Sebo is generally regarded as one of the most reliable brands of vacuum you can buy anyway.

The Sebo X7 range has a five-year direct-to-Sebo guarantee. The Sebo guarantee isn’t something you have to jump through lots of hoops to get (just register it online) or spend hours on the phone on hold waiting for somebody that will never answer as you would do with say, Vax. Sebo are very good about honouring their warranties on account of the fact that they do so few of them.

So is the Sebo X7 Extra the one to buy?

Sebo X7 Extra

In our opinion, if you can manage another £50 or so, we’ve always recommended the black X7 Pet Boost because it is better value considering all the extras that come with it.

The navy blue Sebo X7 Extra, being the next machine down, also represents pretty good value at a mid-price point. If you feel you don’t need the charcoal filter, boost facility and the extra tools that the Pet model has for the money, then the navy blue Sebo X7 Extra represents a superb all-round buy for a family home with mixed floor types.
